Open Society University Network (OSUN)
OSUNs mission is to prepare students from diverse geographies and backgrounds, through rigorous liberal arts and sciences education, to address global challenges as thoughtful and engaged citizens.
The Open Society University Network (OSUN) aims to advance global learning, promote academic freedom, and expand access to higher education.
We are delighted that StreetBiz has partnered with OSUN since 2023 to enable Be a Nelson Movement members to participate in courses on Social Entrepreneurship, and Leading Change for Sustainability.
In 2024, 250 students from universities around the world (including The Netherlands, Iraq, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, Lithuania, Palestine, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Ghana, and Bard College New York) were joined by 42 Be a Nelson Movement participants, to work in teams on community development plans, presenting projects weekly for faculty and peer feedback.
We are extremely proud that one of the Be a Nelson teams reached the final round, securing 4th place among top university teams. Their project, Safety Net, proposed an innovative solution to combat gender-based violence and femicide by creating an integrated network linking local authorities, NGOs, community leaders, and healthcare professionals via a mobile platform for seamless victim support and response coordination.
The remarkable performance of Be a Nelson participants despite not coming from a traditional academic background caught the attention of university faculty and students worldwide. As a result, their experience was further highlighted through a follow-up podcast, What If Instead, and a research article in OSUN News.
This partnership exemplifies StreetBiz Foundation’s commitment to empowering young changemakers by providing access to global education, practical experience, and international recognition. Be a Nelson members continue to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and connections through opportunities like these, proving that grassroots leaders have a vital role in shaping a better future.
